Minutes of Core Group Meeting on January 3, 2012

 

Minutes of the Meeting of the Core Group of RuTAG – IIT Delhi held on 3rd January, 2012 in the CRDT Committee Room, IIT Delhi.

A Meeting of the Core Group of RuTAG, IIT Delhi was held on 3rd January, 2011 in the CRDT Committee Room, IIT Delhi under the chairmanship of Prof. R.R. Gaur. Following were present:

Prof. R. R. Gaur, Chairman, Core Group, RuTAG, IIT Delhi welcomed the participants, greeted for the New Year-2012 and started the proceedings of the meeting.

Agenda item No. 1: Confirmation of the minutes of the last meeting of the Core Group:

The minutes of the meeting of the Core Group of RuTAG, IIT Delhi held on 4th November, 2011 were already circulated to all the members/participants. No comment had been received. The minutes of the last meeting were deemed as confirmed.    

Agenda item No. 2: Discussion on completed projects:

  1. Evaluation and Standardization of Animal Driven Water Pump:

The Committee discussed that the project had already been completed and Final Report had been submitted to the members of the Review Committee for their comments. After receipt of their comments/suggestions, necessary improvements will be made in the Report and it will be put up to the Core Group for its approval before submitting to the Office of the PSA. The Chairman indicated that Panchal Pump Systems, Kanpur is manufacturing the improved version of the Gear Box and supplying to the users on their demand. Indicating that some funds are available under the project, Prof. S.K. Saha asked whether these could be utilised for testing of other operations such as Chaff cutter, Atta Chakki etc. Prof. Rajendra Prasad indicated that it will be useful if the improved Gear Box could be used for other purposes. He said that if some more funds are required that can be met by RuTAG’s funds.

  1. Development of Biogas Engine Conversion Kit:

The Committee discussed that the project had already been completed and Final Report had been submitted to the members of the Review Committee for their comments. After receipt of their comments/suggestions, necessary improvements will be made in the Report and it will be put up to the Core Group for its approval before submitting to the Office of the PSA.

  1. A comparative Study of Bullock Driven Tractors:

Major S. Chatterjee stated that the Project had already been discussed two times so there is no need for further discussion. The Report may be sent to the Office of the PSA.

  1. Management Development Programme for Rural Enterprises:

The report is almost ready and will be submitted to the Core group soon.

Agenda item No. 3&4: Presentation on sanctioned project on Technology Standardization and Development of Testing-cum-Training Facility for Ultra-micro Hydel Power Package for Rural Applications:

Prof. PMV Subbarao made a presentation of the model of the project to be installed at Micro-model in IIT Delhi. He clarified the points raised by the Members of the Core Group. Prof. S.S. Murthy apprised about the electrical aspects of the project. He said that the Project is ready to commence and awaiting permission to call quotations. The Core Group appreciated the efforts made by Prof. Subbarao and his team in preparation of the model of the Project. A meeting of the Review Committee may be held soon to evaluate the project at this stage and approve the future plan of action. Major Chatterjee to take the necessary action for holding the meeting.

Major Chatterjee stated that he is searching for a suitable persons to be included in the Committee and hoped that the Committee will be finalized by the end of January, 2012. The Chairman indicated to await calling quotations for the items costing more than Rs. 2 Lakhs till the meeting of the Project Monitoring Committee is held. However, the civil construction could be started immediately.

Agenda item No. 5.: Follow up action on the issues emerged in the Lucknow Workshop:

Prof. Rajendra Prasad apprised about the Problems/technologies identified in the Lucknow Workshop and in the meeting held with the participants of MDP for Rural Enterprises. He told that some internal discussions was held and accordingly priorities had been given to the problems/technologies to be attended to. The first priority had been given to the following:

1 Equipment for mechanically removing the pulp and decortications of Khumani so that total part of the fruit could be processed and used. Details of problem, scale of production etc. need to be find out. Prof. S N Naik may be consulted. Manufacturer of the equipment to be found out.
2 Demonstration of a micro hydel power plant on the canal for electricity generation for 4-5 villages. Prof. Subbarao visited along with his team at the site at Manakpur on 8-12-2011.   Requested to the Village Pradhan to pass a resolution in the Gram Sabha and take permission/NOC from Canal Deptt. of the State Govt. Prof. subbarao will work out the estimates for distribution.
3 Setting up of Fruit processing units for Amla, Mahua, Chirongi, Harda and Behra at Sonebhadra. Shri Ram Gopal Agnihotri visited the site on 24-12-2011 to understand the problem. The area is in need of Food Processing Centre.
4 Simple and small scale technology for Amla storage Specific problem of storage of product need to be found out.
5 Micro hydel power model on Goverdhan drain at Pingri, Farah, Mathura. Prof. Subbarao to visit the site after arrangement of the  funds by the Organisation.
6 Converting the Potato in to Potato powder Detailed informations are being collected.
7 Reducing drudgery in operation of Treadle Pump used for irrigation. The team visited Deoria on December 15-16, 2011 for collecting the detailed information.
8 Brackish water and fluoride in the water. Prof. A.B. Gupta, Civil Engg. Deptt., MNIT, Jaipur and Prof. MP Punia, Dean, MNIT may be consulted. A meeting of NGOs of Fluoride affected areas may be conducted at Jaipur with MNIT experts.
9 Technology for Garlic processing The Garlic processing machines are available at KVK, Antah (Baran). The NGO was advised to consider to send the SHG members interested in Garlic processing to KVK,Antah for training and production with the raw materials to process their garlic and after processing market their products themselves.
10 R&D in Tulsi-mala making machine. The Device was demonstrated by the agency at RuTAG on 8-12-2011. The R&D is under consideration

Other problems/needs had been kept in second and third priorities and will be taken up later.

Agenda item No. 6.: Outcome of the Udaipur Workshop:

Prof. Rajendra Prasad apprised about the following Problems/Needs Identified in the Udaipur workshop and about their solutions:

Agenda item No. 7.: Outcome of the visit to Deoria, and Uttrakhand:

The Chairman informed that the CD prepared by PCRA about the Treadle Pump at Gramodaya Rachnatmak Vikas Sansthan, Chairavan Khas, Deoria had been seen and the problems in operation of Treadle Pump had been discussed with Shri C.P. Kushwaha, Secretary of the NGO. The problem is worth addressing by RuTAg-IIT Delhi.

Regarding Processing of Khumani, it was decided that Oil Technology Centre, Anantapur (AP) may be contacted to find out the details if they had worked on processing of Khumani.

Agenda item No.8.: Discussion regarding the workshop to be conducted for the S&T      institutions and NGOs in Madhya Pradesh:

Regarding workshop in Madhya Pradesh, it was decided that it will be considered after the outcome of the visit of the RuTAG-IITD Team to Vivekananda Parvatiya Krishi Anusandhan Sansthan, Almora for testing the pearling of minor millets which had been scheduled for 9th January, 2012.

Agenda item No. 9.: To associate MGIRI, Wardha with RuTAG-IIT Delhi.

This will be explored further.
