Team-based Online Projects (TOP) @ RuTAG

Team-based Online Projects (TOP), a concept introduced by Prof. Saha was implemented for the RuTAG summer projects during June - July 2021. The project was open for all the students of IIT Delhi.

An institute mail was sent to all students indicating the opportunity to do summer projects under RuTAG and earn design credits. The following steps/ activities were conducted.

Step 1 - Expression of interest and screening:

  1. Students are required to fill a google form linked in the institute email indicating their project preference. (June 2, 2021)
  2. Students will then study about RuTAG and make presentations of not more than 6 slides explaining about RuTAG. The ppt will be uploaded in the form of PDF in the google form. (June 15, 2021)
  3. Each ppt will be peer reviewed by 5 different students and graded out of 100 (20 x 5) marks. (June 19, 2021)

Step 2 – Shortlisting and Creating Teams

  1. The shortlisted students will be divided into groups of 5 based on their project preferences. (June 30, 2021)
  2. The list of the teams along with the names of coordinators and co-coordinators will be shared over email. The coordinators are expected to make sure that all the members are in contact and working regularly.
  3. An interaction session will be held with RuTAG PIs and coordinators for a general introduction about RuTAG and the summer projects. (July 6, 2021)
  4. Teams are expected to conduct regular meetings and maintain logs regarding roles and responsibilities of each team member.
  5. Weekly meetings will be held for all the projects every Friday.

Step 3 – Stage 1 ppt submission

  1. Teams will do a background and literature study of the projects to identify various problems associated with it.
  2. A presentation is to be submitted of (8+2) slides containing the work done and problem identification. Each team is required to choose one problem statement which they will be focusing on. (July 19, 2021)
  3. The ppts will be peer reviewed by 5 other teams and scored out of 100 (20 x 5).

Step 4 – Stage 2 ppt submission

  1. Teams will work on the solution of identified problem statement.
  2. Final ppts are to be submitted which will contain the solution proposed by the team. Final presentation should also contain the slides of Stage 1 ppt. (August 6, 2021)

Step 5 – Final Presentation and Interaction Session


  1. Teams will be presenting their work in front of RuTAG PIs. (August 28, 2021, and August 30, 2021).
  2. Each team will be a given 5 minutes to explain the work done, followed by Q&A.
  3. The panel will decide on the eligibility of NG units which will be communicated to the students later.

  • Peer learning and benchmarking various groups
